On the Battle Front
I am a revolutionary soldier on the battle front.
I wonder if I'll live or die.
I hear gunfire and men dying.
I see blood and pain.
I am a soldier.
I pretend to be an American.
I feel scared an unprotected.
I touch the trigger of my gun.
I worry about my family in the plantation.
I cry for love and warmth of family.
I am an African.
I understand why freedom is wanted.
I say things of encouragement to my fellow soldiers.
I dream of independence.
I try not to give up
I hope to be free.
I am a revolutionary soldier on the battle front.
