The crew of the Coast Guard Tall
Ship Barque Eagle (WIX 327) during the first part of their
2019 summer tour off the coast of Europe ...
with
visits to
England, Norway, Germany, and Denmark.
Built in Germany in 1936 and
re-commissioned by the United States at the close of World
War II ... the 295-foot Barque Eagle is the flagship of the
U.S. Coast Guard. She serves as a training vessel for cadets
at the Coast Guard Academy and candidates from the Officer
Candidate School.
The Eagle is the largest active
tall ship flying the Stars and Stripes ... and one of only
two commissioned sailing vessels along with the USS
Constitution.
