Performed by Luke Stricklin Co-written by Luke Stricklin and J.R. Shultz Copyright 2005 Time Records
This heartfelt, moving song was written by Stricklin and Schultz while in the National Guard and serving in Iraq in 2004 during a twelve month deployment.
"I saw my fair share of death . . . More than I'd liked to have seen. But the hardest part is knowing your loved ones are at home worrying about you. I'd been over there several months and every time I called home my family or my wife asked what it was like, but I wouldn't tell them. Finally, I decided to write a song to answer those questions, and that's all this was ever supposed to be." Luke Stricklin 2005
"Luke Stricklin's singing talent shines in his performance of American by God's Amazing Grace . . . which wonderfully portrays the feelings of a brave one in harm's way. And it really touched my heart, as a father of a son who served in harm's way." David Bancroft, USA Patriotism! founder (March 2009)
