July 27, 2016 - The Massachusetts National Guard, 1st Battalion, 101st Field Artillery Regiment conducting annual artillery training at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. The Massachusetts National Guard101st Field Artillery Regiment consists of the1st Battalion based in Brockton, Massachusetts and Echo Battery 101st Field Artillery, Target Acquisition Battery (TAB) based in Rehoboth, Massachusetts.
Historically, the 101st Field Artillery Regiment it the oldest field artillery regiment in the United States Army and was first formed on December 13, 1636 as the South Regiment by the Massachusetts General Court. Its first commander was Colonel John Winthrop. Since its creation, the regiment has served in six colonial wars and nine American wars totaling 47 campaigns through 2010.
