In April 2011 members of the 1st Battalion 28th Infantry Regiment welcomed 6 year old Ian Field to Fort Riley, Kansas. Ian, now 9 and the Black Lions' youngest Command Sergeant Major, returned to attend a change of command ceremony and visit his fellow soldiers on May 7, 2013. Ian suffers from Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a disorder that involves rapidly worsening muscle weakness and will eventually require him to be in a wheel chair full time.
