|  | 05/21/05 - Jane Lewis Sale Henley and Lisa Clark christen the USNS Lewis and Clark (T-AKE 1) during a ceremony at the National Steel and Shipbuilding Company (NASSCO) in San Diego, Calif., on May 21, 2005. Lewis and Clark is the first of the newest class of underway replenishment ships built for naval service and are named in honor of legendary explorers. The primary mission of the ship is to provide combat stores to naval forces at sea. Henley and Clark are direct descendents of Capt. Meriwether Lewis and Lt.William Clark, the explorers, and were on hand to help celebrate their ancestor's namesake.
