Battles of Night country as flag
Blazing fire clouds... omens of grief...
churning and twirling... twisting beyond belief
Lost in a place defying time...
and space... this Hell of mine
Each night I smell again the diesel fumes
Sounds of gunfire echo through my rooms
Is even God able to aide me in my gloom
or shall I suffer forever... is it my doom
I salute those marching past me... these dead of old...
for memory of my lost friends is what sears my soul
I hear the sound of the whirling blades coming
I am saved... I am saved again... for it is morning
I rush to open the blinds... let the sunlight flood all
but even so... the memories hang over me like a pall

About Author... Faye Sizemore makes her home in the beautiful foothills of South Carolina with Grant, the love of her life, as well as three dogs, two cats, two parakeets and four nanny goats. Grant is a Vietnam Veteran having served with the US Marines in 1968-69 and is, of course, Faye's muse. Faye is deeply interested in Veterans' Affairs and Veterans' Causes. She is very proud of Grant and her poetry is an off-shoot of that pride.
