In the Dark of Night country as flag
In the midnight hours when most are asleep
... that is when old memories of war do creep
I am often visited by them in the dark of night
Old enemies gather around... just out of sight...
dancing and singing their death dirge of fright
I can hear them... and feel their evil plight
Some visitors are of a more welcome nature...
for departed friends faces too... smile here
... reminding me that our time was so dear
They are so welcome and missed...
and their presence guards against the mists
where those other demons gather and hiss
Friendship and brotherhood is forever
... and I know that I am forsaken... never

About Author... Faye Sizemore makes her home in the beautiful foothills of South Carolina with Grant, the love of her life, as well as three dogs, two cats, two parakeets and four nanny goats. Grant is a Vietnam Veteran having served with the US Marines in 1968-69 and is, of course, Faye's muse. Faye is deeply interested in Veterans' Affairs and Veterans' Causes. She is very proud of Grant and her poetry is an off-shoot of that pride.
