I Remain... country as flag
No... I have not walked in your shoes...
that I've not been to war is true
You have shown me war through your eyes...
a secondhand sight... I do realize
I have been told some of the battle tales
and heard with my heart... the wounded's wails
I know war is a path that winds... and winds
... forever in your mind
You have shown me your scars...
and I... touching them
felt under my fingertips... unbearable pain...
still I chose to remain
I have heard of your friends' last hours...
how things were beyond your powers
I know of your cares
and I know of your nightmares
I know of your fears...
how they have haunted you so many years
I was not with you there... but for you... I am always here
Yes... I am the protected... yet sometimes rejected...
but eternally grateful...
always your supporter... sleeping or wakeful
... and forever so... through sun and shadow...
loss or gain... count on me... for I will remain...

About Author... Faye Sizemore makes her home in the beautiful foothills of South Carolina with Grant, the love of her life, as well as three dogs, two cats, two parakeets and four nanny goats. Grant is a Vietnam Veteran having served with the US Marines in 1968-69 and is, of course, Faye's muse. Faye is deeply interested in Veterans' Affairs and Veterans' Causes. She is very proud of Grant and her poetry is an off-shoot of that pride.
