One of the CHOSIN Few! | | |
					| At 78 quiet and straight
 layin' close to dying
 yet late

 long after brothers have gone
 He takes my hand
places eyes of steel upon me
 says softly

 "See me home soldier
I have lost all the old Marines!
 Where did they go soldier
 Why am I so alone!"

 "They are home"
 I answer!
 "Listen!

Just close your eyes and listen!
Words frozen in the battles of Chosin
 so long ago.
 Words frozen.
Waiting for you now Old Marine."

 His eyes reach to mine...
 "The words Soldier... the words!
 What do you hear?"

 He closes his eyes.
I bend to his ear and whisper.

"I hear them Sarge... so loud
 and so clear!

 'Semper FI!
 The sound of thousands Sarge!
 all together... shouting
 'Semper FI!"

 He is quiet
 gone now
 having heard them
he has joined the history of himself
 shouting into Eternity
that he is soon... so soon

 coming home.

 'Semper Fi... ol' Sarge'
 Semper Fi!
