Old Visions country as flag
The fields no longer yield cotton...
grown up now in water oak and pine
twined about with wisteria vine...
a haven for fox and dove
Each with the other abiding
Each seeking a place of hiding
Southern winds bring strange sounds
And sometimes strange sights
The sounds of strife
from another time and life
Sometimes glimpses of
coats of blue and ones of gray
who passed long ago
... close to each other this way
One waiting and biding time
The other traveling
where the road did wind
Quiet so quiet...
None gave a sign...
save a lonely whippoorwill beneath its tree
�Ambush... Ambush!'... I cried
but not one could hear me
... shouting from
one hundred and fifty
odd years away
A volley of shots
rang out...
Another and another round
Dying lined the grass...
fading quickly into history
...their outlines vanishing
but leaving the battleground
bloody... even today
I wonder... I wonder...
Will their blood ever fade away...?

About Author... Faye Sizemore makes her home in the beautiful foothills of South Carolina with Grant, the love of her life, as well as three dogs, two cats, two parakeets and four nanny goats. Grant is a Vietnam Veteran having served with the US Marines in 1968-69 and is, of course, Faye's muse. Faye is deeply interested in Veterans' Affairs and Veterans' Causes. She is very proud of Grant and her poetry is an off-shoot of that pride.
