								| The Ruptured Dawn | | |
					| A time of peace with the new dawn slowly rising in
the east Not total darkness, yet not full of light
A time to relax to know that this moment is a time of peace
Knowing that you are soon to leave in a fortnight

In one micro-second there is a horrendous explosion
Suddenly with each explosion there is now no sun or no moon
The now sudden noise makes everyone react in quick motions
Star shells light up the area as if it were high noon

Explosions surround you one after another
Each one seems to come closer as you hug the ground
 Horrendous sounds everywhere
The constant shrill whistling of incoming rounds

Falling mud and rocks rain down in a way of being hectic
Hot, metal shrapnel fall to the ground
Constant noise, friends crying for a medic
Buddies you had just had breakfast with now lay wounded

Silently you cry for the noise to stop, for peace
Praying that you will survive and not be just a number
Each new upheaval of ground brings cries for buddies
You hug the earth tightly trying to make your body smaller

Now you hear the dull THUMP of a mortar being fired
You feel safe enough to look up and you see the rounds
Landing on the target area outside the perimeter wire
You pray the outgoing rounds will hit those that surrounds

All that remains now is the cries of those injured
As you run to provide immediate buddy care aid
Trying to help save a buddy from being bagged
Thankful that you are alive and not wounded
