Spotlighted (PTSD) country as flag
In the light
that is blacker
than black...
I stumble and falter...
looking in dread...
farther behind
and over my shoulder
to the places
where the demons shelter
... regrouping daily
and following my trail
nightly... nightly...
with their eerie wail
and their undying thirst
for my soul
with its quest
still untold...
which is
searching... searching...
in the light
that is blacker than black
hunting constantly... constantly
for the way back...
back to where I was
before I did not know
that I was lost
I know it will never be over
without paying
those demons their cost
I cannot live
with that thought
or even
with that thoughts lack...
spotlighted in the light
that is much blacker
than black

About Author... Faye Sizemore makes her home in the beautiful foothills of South Carolina with Grant, the love of her life, as well as three dogs, two cats, two parakeets and four nanny goats. Grant is a Vietnam Veteran having served with the US Marines in 1968-69 and is, of course, Faye's muse. Faye is deeply interested in Veterans' Affairs and Veterans' Causes. She is very proud of Grant and her poetry is an off-shoot of that pride.
