March 22, 2021 - The U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Air and Marine Operations
(AMO) Tucson Air
Branch responded to a call from Cochise County Search and Rescue
(CCSO) requesting air support for a U.S. citizen female hiker stranded in the
Huachuca Mountains with a broken leg.
Since no landing zone was
accessible and winds were gusting over 40 mph, a
hoist capable UH-60 Black Hawk is used with the aircrew
successfully locating and hoisting the female
into the aircraft. She is then immediately transported to Canyon
Vista Hospital for further treatment.
Note: An Arizona DPS helicopter
made several attempts to assist the injured hike, but it was
unable to land due to the conditions, which resulted in the
call to the AMO Tucson Air
Branch.
