September 5, 2021 - A U.S. Coast
Guard helicopter crew rescues a man stranded at night on
Greyhound Rock off a beach at Greyhound Rock County Park.
The helicopter crew arrived when
high water and waves prevented him to leave. A rescue
swimmer is lowered to the rock followed by the man being
hoisted into the helicopter.
Greyhound Rock in Santa
Cruz County, California is interesting huge rock formation,
made of ancient mudstone, that extends into the Pacific
Ocean with flat enough surfaces that people can walk on and
gaze out at the spacious sea during low tide. However, waves
block the return to the beach when the water starts rising
toward high tide.
