December 8, 2021 - U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Detroit helicopter crew member Petty Officer 2nd Class Derrian Duryea, an aviation survival technician, deploys from an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter and retrieves an unresponsive female from a vehicle submerged in the near freezing Niagara River waters at the brink of the falls during snowy weather conditions. She was later pronounced deceased by local EMS.
New York State Park Police requested agency assistance after a report of a vehicle in the river.
