1st Cavalry Division is a cavalry
unit of the United States Army based in Fort Hood, Texas.
The Black Jack Brigade has led the way throughout its
remarkable history. During World War II, Black Jack was first to storm the
island of Leyte and reach the capital of Manila during the liberation of
the Philippines, and was the first allied unit to enter the city of Tokyo. They were the first of the 1st Cavalry Division's brigades to conduct
operations in the Republic of Vietnam.
During the Persian Gulf War, Black
Jack was the first coalition unit to conduct offensive ground-operations in
Iraq. They were 1st Cavalry Division's first brigade to deploy to Operation
Iraqi Freedom and the first brigade to arrive in New Orleans following
Hurricane Katrina.
The Black Jack Brigade Combat Team stands ready to lead the
way to any contingency area world-wide to accomplish any
mission that the future might bring.
