53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron flies a mission into Hurricane

The Hurricane Hunters flew their specially
equipped WC-130J Super Hercules from Charleston International
Airport, South Carolina into tropical systems to collect data for
the National Hurricane Center to use to create more accurate
forecast models.
Hurricane Laura achieved category 4 status
with 150 mph maximum sustained winds with stronger gusts making a
destructive landfall south of Lake Charles, Louisiana on August 27,
2020.
