U.S. Marines with 1st Reconnaissance
Battalion and Japanese Soldiers with the Western Army
Infantry Regiment, Japan Ground Self Defense Force, conduct
a helocast exercise providing transportation as the Marines
practiced loading from land and offloading into the water as
part of Exercise Iron Fist 2018. Helocasting allows
reconnaissance teams to travel longer distances before being
dropped off for their final advancement to an objective
area.
Iron Fist is an annual, bilateral amphibious
training exercise designed to improve USMC and JGSDF’s
ability to plan, communicate and conduct combined amphibious
operations at the platoon, company and battalion levels.
