Scenes of the four day
efforts by Sailors
and Federal firefighters in
extinguishing a fire on board the amphibious assault ship
USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) at Naval Base San Diego.
The
fire started aboard the ship on the morning of July 12, 2020,
while it was moored pier side at Naval Base San Diego. The
fire was finally
extinguished on July 16th, but caused extensive damage to
the USS Bonhomme Richard that makes it uncertain if the
warship will sail again.
More than 60 sailors and civilians
were treated for minor injuries, heat exhaustion and smoke
inhalation.
