The District of Columbia National Guard 257th Army Band kicks off the National Independence Day Parade, July 4 along Constitution Ave. in Washington, D.C. The 257th, known as the Band of the Nation’s Capital, has the honor of leading the elite marching units of each of the five uniformed services at the start of the annual holiday tradition. The parade draws thousands of spectators to the nation’s capital and is the prelude to a day filled with music, food, and fireworks in celebration of America’s independence. Future cadets arrive at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., June 29, 2015, where a third-year cadet greeted them. This year, almost 1,300 future cadets reported to the academy on "R-day," also known as "report day," which is typically the last Monday in June. SAN DIEGO (June 25, 2015) - Sonar Technician (Surface) 2nd Class Matthew Clark meets his son for the first time after a 250-day independent deployment aboard the guided-missile destroyer USS Milius (DDG 69).
