The USS Iwo Jima with 2,000 Marines and Sailors is assigned to the U.S. 6th Fleet Area of Responsibility that covers approximately 20 million square nautical miles of ocean including half of the Atlantic Ocean, from the Arctic Ocean to the coast of Antarctica; as well as the Adriatic, Baltic, Barents, Black, Caspian, Mediterranean and North Seas ... along with encompassing 105 countries with a combined population over one billion and includes a landmass extending more than 14 million square miles.
