April 27, 2023 - A drone captures the U.S. Coast Guard Tall Ship Eagle (WIX 327) with its mast headlights lit underway in the eastern North Atlantic Ocean during the early evening.
Eagle conducted a four-month summer deployment, sailing across the Atlantic Ocean, to teach practical seamanship skills to officer candidates from the U.S. Coast Guard and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Corps, foreign military personnel, and shared best practices with sailing organization Tall Ships America, while cadets and crew facilitated diplomatic engagements with U.S. allies in Northern Europe, the Portuguese archipelagoes of the Azores and Madeira, and Bermuda.
The 295-foot Tall Ship Barque Eagle is the flagship of the U.S. Coast Guard and is homeported at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. She serves as a training vessel for cadets at the Coast Guard Academy and candidates from the Officer Candidate School. The Eagle is the only active-duty sailing vessel in America's military, and one of only two commissioned sailing vessels, along with the USS Constitution.
