Amazing Mortar Fire Plume Scene October 30, 2026
October 21, 2026 - An amazing fiery plume scene immediately after U.S. soldiers fire a mortar ... as the shell leaves the muzzle, causing a flash of bright orange and yellow flame bursting from the tube ... during a weekend drill at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey. The fiery plume is caused by incandescent gases and unburned propellant particles making contact with oxygen in the outside air, causing a secondary ignition (muzzle flash). The Mortarmen ... assigned to 1st Battalion, 181st Infantry Regiment, 44th Infantry Brigade Combat Team ... operate 60 mm, 81 mm, and 120 mm mortar systems to provide indirect fire support for ground forces.
